The following states are ranked from highest to lowest by the number of psychologists employed within the state. Cities within the state that have the highest earning potential for psychologists are also noted. (CTI Career Search and The Travel Nurse)

1. California: California cities are among the best cities for psychologists with highest salary potential coming in at $169,260 and $148,600 respectively. Bakersfield and Sacramento have the highest earning potential.
2. New York:  New York City shows the highest earning potential in the state with $96,890 followed by Nassau with $80,850.
3. Illinois: Chicago makes the list as one of the top places for psychologists to work with an earning potential of $89,830.
4. Pennsylvania: Philadelphia has the highest potential salary for the state of Pennsylvania at $79,090.
5. Texas: They say everything is bigger in Texas. The same goes for the salary potential of Dallas psychologists, coming in at $82,060.
6. Florida: Orlando represents Florida's high potential salary for a psychologist at $121,390.
7. Ohio: Cincinnati comes in at $75,050.
8. Massachusetts: Framingham boasts the highest salary potential at $92,270 followed by a more popular city, Boston with $72,340.
9. New Jersey: Newark with $101,000 comes in first in the state of New Jersey followed by Iselin with $98,000. (Salary.com)
10. Michigan: Detroit is known for its high concentration of car manufacturing facilities. But lesser known is that it is a great place for psychologists to work with a salary potential of $86,560.
